Back to Hints & Tips

1. In the scene bin, take a copy of the clip that is to be faded from B&W into colour.

2. Using "Special" "Colour to Grey", make the copy clip into B&W.

3. Put the B&W clip on to the story board.

4. Using "Insert" insert the original colour version onto the B&W version and since they are both the same length the colour version will completely cover the B&W clip.

5. In "Range", select "Trim" or "Trim E" and scroll to the point where the change form B&W to colour is to start and click "OK"

6. In the story board there will now be a B&W clip and the colour insert, using "fx Transition" put a cross fade of what ever length between the B&W and the insert.

The result will be a B&W clip which starts changing to colour and after the period of the cross fade transition is changed into full colour. A long transition of 4 seconds plus gives the best results.
